Something special is in ROSEVILLE of all places. R’House, the Saturday night party inside the all new Owl Club (upstairs) is truly a cosmopolitan gem in a sea of small town and suburban mediocrity (and I’m talking about Sacramento too, not just Roseville). New owners Mark and Lorraine recently took over and are making the most out of this special little space, totally remaking the club from the ground up from new paint, removing walls, a new VIP area behind the bar, to (most importantly to me) a brand new sound system.

This isn’t your grandpappy’s Owl Club! Stop by some Saturday and see. This party has been going on for less than two months now and is becoming a regular stop to old Roseville regulars and dance music aficionados alike.

Oh ya, forgot to mention, not only am I a regular at R’House I’ve played there twice and am going to be a monthly resident going forward! On the grand opening night I got the call from Sacramento dance music pioneer Karizma, visiting N Cali from his home in Portland OR to play at R’House, asking me to open. It was a great night for all even though the club had not yet been refined to today’s level. Since then I’ve been back many times for stand out deejays and dear friends Vince Lombardi, Sukh B, and Bobby Martinez behind the decks and played with Rich Soto (Rich Soul/Dick Jesus) just last weekend. I truly look forward to what R’House has in store for all dance music lovers!

I’m playing with Vince at the grand opening of the Escape at the Fugu Lounge. Vince and I are the opening night residents and will be exclusively hosting “THE BACKROOM” monthly going forward. Gavin and Vince, backroom style.

Of course the party is not just for you underground beat freaks, Escape will include more commercially friendly music in the main room every week. So it’s safe for you to bring your friends that don’t quite “get it” just yet. And who knows, they might just venture into the backroom with Vince and I at the helm and get an underground education!!!

My New Mix, System20:TEN (part 1)

A more “accessible” mix for the late Winter / early Spring from me, including remixes of a few huge WMC tunes from yesteryear. Yep, it’s a little early for my annual WMC mix but this is going to have to be it since I will only be working on finishing up new original tracks until after the conference.

I did this last Saturday before heading out to my gig with J Phlip. Hit record and started playing. I wanted to capture a more easily digestible mix for the masses since underground minimal and techno is just not going over well at too many parties in Sacramento. What I came up with was about 2 and a half hours of dancefloor friendly house and techouse, often using my formula of taking a step back after taking two steps forward as if I was playing live at a gig. This is in no way preprogramed or mixed, just throwing down from the depths of the dome, testing out what I thought I might play later that night…

Pioneer and Beatport are sponsoring a new contest to find an unknown deejay and show them some love. I decided to submit my Bangin2.0 mix from this Summer rather than make something new as people really seem to like it. 100 lucky winners make the finals and then they have to make something new with a Winter Music Conference theme to it.
